Wearable Art and limited edition Fine Art Photographic Prints › Seven Blessings

Seven Blessings

from $69.00

Part of the Siddur collection, this scarf is based on my piece entitled Baghdad 01, June 1, 1941, from the series Out of the Darkness. The source image of this scarf is the close up detail of an Iraqi Jewish Wedding dress which I found in the Israel museum in Jerusalem.

The original dress consists of tinsel embrodiery on silk and lace. After it’s first use at the wedding of Rabbi Abraham Baruch Gubbay’s grandmother in Baghdad in the 19th Century, it was then altered in order to be worn at ceremonial meals known as Sheva’ Berakhot - Seven Blessings.

The fabric of the scarf is Charmeuse silk which has such a sheen that any light reflects off of it. The scarf is available in two sizes: 26x26” and 36x36”. 15% of the proceeds from the sale of this scarf will go to support the Magen David Adom
